Here is the latest Luthier Tips du Jour video - The topic is how to lessen the pucker factor when using binding jigs.
This video as well as all my other videos are available via my website, http://www.obrienguitars.com/videos , LMI's website or on youtube.
Enjoy!

No matter what type or who's machine -- Robbie's advice to make multiple passes is a prudent strategy.

I like the adjustable height ring -- our (KMG) bearing guided bit table model will have a similar feature.

Before deciding I'm more comfortable with a Kett type jig (from Canadian Luthier Supply), I had a go with LMI's new jig. The tower was fantastic, and that height adjustment in particular, was awesome. The only reason I decided to go separate ways was because I was tired of spending so long getting the guitar set right in the cradle. Never could get it perfect everywhere.

I just converted over to the LMI system and on the first try it worked great! No issues with either the router mount or the cradle (it was a classical, which is always a bit easier). My only complaint is that the newer PC or Dewalt routers don't fit the pre-drilled holes. (unless I am totally confused, which can not be ignored!)

Yes, I really like the new LMI system. I splurged and got the carriage as well, even though I had a previous version, and I'm glad I did. The height adjustment via screws is so easy versus the old way of slots that are moved and then tightened. Lets you sneak up on perfect alignment easily, although I'm of the school that perfect alignment is not absolutely needed,
Mike
