Hi,

Fate has put a big big board of BRW on my way a few weeks ago.
The board is measuring 160cm long, 38cm wide, and 8cm thick.
It was really damaged by the cracks, it slept for probably 80 years in a basement, in a workshop.

Here it is, before resawing:

Yesterday was THE day, the day I would see what's inside this board, and how much damages time has made on it.
Here it is:

Very nice lenghts for guitar sides, and also a board 12mm thick left for bridges and fretboards..

And for the backs.. mamma mia..

A big big piece of this board was really damaged in all directions, giving this:

This is all the stash after the work was done:

Amazing wood, especially in this time. A word of advice on the tape. Don't leave it on for an extended period. I have old BR that has been permanently discolored from leaving tape on it. You think it would sand out, but it can go pretty deep.

In the first pic, is that the name "George" we can see written in chalk? If so, I would like my wood back. :D

Thank you Burton, and all the others!
I feel so lucky to have this stash of BRW.. I should have enough fretboards and bridges for all my life.. considering I build 1 guitar a year..

Thank you for your advice.
Do you think the tape itself leaves the discoloration? Or does it happen if you put the wood under sunlight every day, for example?
My wood is in a dark room and should not suffer from light.
I have many many boards to glue properly because of the cracks which were running almost from one side of the board to the other. The tape is only here to keep the pieces together before gluing.

According to all of you, should I use epoxy? Or Titebond? Several cracked boards really match together and it may not be visible at all on most cracks.

On the black/darken areas like on this set:

Should I flood the black zones with epoxy to stabilize and block the wood?
I will definitely use all the sets like these for my personal guitars, I don't care if there is so black marks of cracking on the wood. It's part of the history, but I want to be sure it won't crack again, or create some problems in the future in terms of stability.

Thank you again for your kind words!

With the wonderful aroma of the BRW, I could imagine your wife or lady friend thinking that you are hiding a girlfriend in your shop, Quentin! Enjoy your great find!

W.......O..........W................

There is a good thread on here of a guitar with natural "sound hole" features that was pretty cool.

Wow!
Lucky find.
I was at a friends house,
and there was a bunch of small pieces of what he said were Brazilian.
He gave them to me,
and I cut them up into bridge blanks, not sure if they were brw,
but when I got that odor whilst cutting,
I said "yup" to meself!
Haven't cut any since the early 70's,
but clearly remember it!
Nice score!

Nice score! Great spider-webbing.
Congratz!
Just a suggestion, some of the smaller pieces, you can go for a multi-piece back.

Yes, that's what I will have to do.
Also with the boards which were meant for the sides, I can assemble and make perfect bookmatch!

Anyone can answer me for my glue question?

Should I flood the black cracks with epoxy?
Which glue should I use for regluing some pieces that fell off naturally after all these years of drying? Is Titebond the right choice or should I epoxy?

With what kind of saw did you resaw it ? A "regular" bandsaw, "scie à bois montant" (sorry, don't know english name for that kind of milling) or a circular one ?
