Post subject:  Kasha back brace plans

Hi guys, I'm looking for some kasha style plans but I'm having great trouble finding a plan set with the true kasha back bracing plans as well. Finding the soundboard plans is not a problem they have them on several websites but none seem to have the back plans as well (this meaning NOT the traditional ladder style back bracing).

If anyone can give me any links or indication to where I might find some it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for you're help. :D

GAL guild of american luthiers had articles abt kasha and his designs check with them , back in the middle of 1995 asked Boaz elkayam for a set of plans He never sent them . He lives in Israel now and used to build kasha style guitars .Perhaps he might still have some plans

My Kasha plans came from Allied and they have an X-braced back.

Thanks for your replys guys.

Michael, that's exactly what I'm looking for, do you know where I can get plans for that back bracing style or did you just design and make it how you thought it should be from photos?

Thanks again

I don't think there were ever any final plans of the bracing systems used on the kasha inspired guitars. I had coffee with richard about 6 months before he died , and he said that they were, after 20 years of building prototypes, finally stabilizing the design. They were constantly refining the bracing over all that time. So it changed from guitar to guitar. The arched braces on the pattern are laminated from many thin strips of spruce into the shape and then shaped and glued on.This pattern was the result of changing the way they thought of the back. Now they are making it into a sound board ...like the top. They are using redwood for the back.It totally changed the way the guitar sounded. Should be enough information in the pictures to help you make this back if you look close. There is an interview I did with richard for the guild of american luthiers on my web site, www.kellerguitars.com , I think its 1978 and gibson guitars had just opened a factory to build steele string kasha/schneider guitars. Richard was there lecturing on the current guitars design. We talked in his dorm room at the university of kansas about the guitars and his hopes for the designs

Thanks very much for the info Michael, I will try to draw my own plans up from the pictures you posted and see how it goes from there. I have also been in contact with Mr Tom Bills, who has been very helpful and given me lots of advice in the past (he uses the Kasha style on his guitars) and he said that he might be able to send me a few pics of his old plans so I will surely be able to sort something out between you're photos and his.

Again thanks very much for your help and advice.
