If you use rare earth magnets to do repair work, Stew-Mac fingerboard protectors are the perfect tool for separating stuck magnets. They're made of austenitic stainless steel, so the magnets won't stick to them. When you've worn out a fingerboard protector, save the pieces, smooth the edges, and you have a new specialized luthier's tool. Put a handle on it if you want to get fancy.

Great tip! I keep one next to my fret nippers, and when refretting I hang the protector over the fret ends. This holds the nippers a few thousands off of the lacquered fretboard binding while I nip them flush.
