Post subject: | Appropriate Slot Head Tuner Spacing? |
My plans for a 000 12 fret slot head (Stew Mac as I recall) show what appears to be uneven tuner spacing. The first tuners on each side are 1.75" from the nut. The second 2 appear to be 1 and 7/16" up from the first tuners and last two appear to be 1 and 6/16" up from the middle tuners. That doesn't seem right. Why would there be an additional 1/16" of spacing between the upper two tuners from the middle tuners? Can someone give me the spacing you have used? ...or any other guidance? I'm ready to drill my tuner holes... I'm using the Grover open gear slot head tuners... |

I've only built one, tuners spaced at 35mm, but would suggest it may be due to the shallower slopes of the strings wound round the top 2 pairs. Try drawing a side view full size to check. |

35mm, even spacing. Works for Waverlys and the Grovers look like a dead ringer for them. Make sure your string pulls clear all the woodwork. ![]() |

Thanks guys. I shouldn't be so reliant on the plans. Since this is my first slot head I made a mock up. So, per Colin's suggestion used the mock up to measure out the spacing. ...beautiful headstock Trevor. |
