I have a great looking walnut set that I am building a 00 guitar. The sides for this set came in about 5 mm narrower than I would have wanted. They are almost wide enough that if everything went perfect while bending and profiling they would be OK. My thought is to do my best and then have the end blocks proud, such that when I profile the rims before gluing on the linings the rims maybe a bit narrow at the deepest part of the waste and the end block. I would then glue on the linings tall enough so that they could be profiled to the correct radius and diminsions. There probably will be areas where the sides are a couple of mm below the top of the linings.

I do not see any issues, as I would route this off for the bindings anyway, but I thought I would put it out as I have never ran into this issue before.

Any thoughts.

Thanks

John: Have never done this also but a nice learning opportunity and I bet it would work out super.

Yes, it can be done that way. I've done it once or twice, and recommended it whenever you need another 1/4" or so.

I've also done it on one set. Hardest part was just to make sure I didn't waste any of the width with poor setup/measuring.

John, I haven't done this, but I've seen it recommended in many posts. I can't see a difference between that and gluing to full width sides, then machining those sides away for the binding! When I route for bindings, I always go totally through the sides to the lining,
Mike

Thanks all,

I can go at it with a bit more confidence.
