Can someone demonstrate how this is done? I assume that the backstrap wood is glued into an area that is cut out and then carved. I'd love to see some photos of this process if anyone has any... |

Here's a link to an earlier thread where I posted some pictures of my backstrapping process (it's down the page a bit): http://luthiersforum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=10101&t=33971&hilit=backstrap I use a drum sander to cut a flat spot into the neck shaft the thickness of my final veneers, leaving a rounded, tapering towards the back of the neck exit point on the neck blank. I then use a vacuum bag to lay the veneers in place--a good foam caul and clamps will accomplish the same thing. Then I carve the neck, making sure that the backstrap lines stay nicely shaped and parallel. Hope this helps. Dave |
