My triangle fret crowning file is just too little for my hands. I've used a mill file before, being careful. I plan to grind the edges off a mill file to help avoid damage to the fret board. Before I do this, am I missing something that might be a problem?

Keep it cool, and quench it often.
Don't want to lose the temper of the metal.

Cant file is larger, inexpensive ($14 for mine) and works.

pillar files are flat and they have a very fine cut. also about $9 to $15 depending on the size. they are also known as a safe edge file

Make sure you get a cant file and not a can't file!

If you plan to grind the edges off a mill file, you'll have to round the edges over to prevent danger of damage to the fretboard, as well as preventing overheating.
