Looking at this I realized.... Oops!

The good news-

This is about to become a very "modern" looking mistake....I mean guitar

Ummmm....

So you decided to make it a double cutaway...

Should look very cool when it's done.

Ok then, matched pair, lefty righty. At least you're not so far along in the build, and nothing is actually wrecked. Just means you're well under way for your first lefty....

Well I really need a guitar for myself, so the lefty cutaway is becoming an inlay

Bummer, dude. If it were me, I'd probably remove the braces, flip the top over and redo the rosette.

I thought about that too, but I really like the rosette and its really just a cosmetic flaw that I am trying to come up with a creative way to hide. Plus there are numerous flaws on the inside face.

The reinforcement is already glued. I just need to come up with a creative inlay to hide it.

A nice curly vine draped around it?
I'm paranoid about doing that one day! I always check about a million times before actually starting to cut

I did that once but it was two guitars I was working on foe a guitar show deadline. Now I don't cut out the cut away until the guitar is boxed

I had a top that , lets say just wasn't right , that I used to practice shooting a burst on..

That is a real bummer. I would consider cutting out the rosette removing most of the top from the backside and routing out the rosette on the purfling lines. You could install it in a new top with a new set of purflings.

Given that the shape you need to hide is so close to the cutaway shape on the other side you may need some symmetry with the cutaway side to not call attention to it. An idea you might consider is to use a purfling scheme for the entire top and follow the mistaken cut with the purfling leaving the the area above the mistaken cut without a purfling, binding only.

Not necessarily. The whole shoulder area could be routed half way through and overlaid with more spruce or some other species, to change the shape of the "transition line". Maybe use a wood pickguard, and use the same species for the shoulder area so it creates some diagonal symmetry across the soundhole? Work in some similar curves or pointy shapes to the outline of the pickguard and the transition line between spruce and shoulder inlay, so it ties the design together.

Well I can fully understand you feelings. I've just spent some time making a nice bridge. I screwed it up right at the end. Well it's just a bridge not a whole top. I'm going to re-make it. Good luck with it. I know you feel terrible as I would.

I ended up routing it out. That top was a little thin and floppy for a baritone anyway. It's going into some much stiffer sitka now. Just a waste of money as I won't lose much time going this route. I also have a BRW bridge plate and the X-Brace is laminated with BRW as well for aroma, as well as stiffness. Might as well do it right cuz that stuff ain't cheap!

I made that mistake before, so now I profile the boards as though it has no cutaway until the box is closed.

I was gong to suggest duplicating the purfling and binding of the cutaway along that symmetrical line. Too late -eh, probably the right thing to do.
