Post subject:  rosewood fret board question

I am new here and starting a new neck with rosewood fret board and was wondering if anyone uses a grain filler on rosewood as it is a open grain wood? Any thoughts and recommendations are appreciated.

Lynn

Hi Lynn: Welcome to the OLF!

Fretboards are generally not pore filled and really don't need to be either.

Hope this helps.

Pore filler is applied so that the top coating can be leveled flat so as to provide a completely smooth surface that can then be polished to a high gloss, if the maker/finisher chooses to do so. Generally the fingerboard is not finished but rather waxed or dressed with one of the other commercial fingerboard treatments.

Short answer -- no.
