I recently had an accident where I ended up with a couple splits in a freshly bent side of cypress. I don't want to pitch the broken side so I need to figure out how to fix it as invisibly as possible. I know splits in dark colored woods can be fairly easily done using CA glue. However, CA tends to discolor light colored woods. I figure I could use a regular wood glue like Titebond to avoid the discoloration, but the splits go all the way to the end of the side and I'm concerned about getting the split to close and stay closed while the glue is drying. Any thoughts/experience with this type of problem? Thanks, Max |

Hot hide glue (high clarity) seems to give the best results in light colored wood. It "tacks" pretty quickly, so if there isn't too much stress in the wood you may be able to hold it tight long enough for the glue to tack up. |

Beyond staining! Don't get CA anywhere near Cypress, it goes all the way through and leaves a nice dark spot. (Max probably knows this - this is for general info). I'll never let CA anywhere near the bench again when I'm building a blanca. |

I've used LMI white with good results. It dries clear. Titebond dries yellow. A premixed Hide glue works pretty well also but I like the old LMI white. Don't know about the new glue they have |

If I understand how the side is cracked exactly, running with grain! I would say trying HHG. Masking tape has pretty useful clamping uses. Glue, and tape closed. Depending on how close it is to the tail block cleats might be in order as well. Cheers John |
