I am looking for a timer that I can use to time different jobs in my shop. I want to be able to start and stop and switch when I stop one job and start another or go back and forth. It would be nice if it had say 4 separate timings. Anyone use such a thing. Thanks |

Being a bit of a Luddite I still use a watch and a small pocket notebook with a page for each job when I am keeping track of my time. I'm sure there are smartphone apps for doing time studies, and if I was more concerned with it I would probably find one (as well as get a smart phone  )

Link, you want something like this http://www.wasserstrom.com/restaurant-supplies-equipment/Product_317213. We use timers like this in pretty much every kitchen I've ever worked in. You may want to look around and see if you can find something cheaper, but that should start you on the path to finding what you need. Hope that helps! Zac Stout p.s. - If you know anyone in the restaurant industry, ask them if they can order you one from their suppliers - they can probably get it cheaper, and they usually get at least one delivery a week, so you probably won't have to wait too long to get it. |

Thanks Zac, That looks good and being water resistant would be a plus in the shop,( I assume that would help with dust). The only problem with that is it is a count down timer and I need a count up. Unless it can count up as well, then it looks great. Do you know if they can count up ? L. |

I use to do 3D graphic design and had to keep track of my time for each client. I would work on multiple projects and had 2 sub contractors that helped me. I used something called Mulit-Timer which would keep track of start/stop times as well as being able to store different hourly rates for each client. I have an older version of it that would only save the rate in British pounds but it was easy to re-calculate to $$$. I am not sure but the new one may have improved on it. I got 4 kitchen timers plus a stack of sticky notes for this. The ones I have count both up and down, and get used way more than I expected. They have a magnet on the back of a clip which also functions as a stand - terrific. I got these exact ones from a local store : Edit2: They are now gone... edit: Oh, they also take aaa batteries rather than the little tiny disc-shaped ones, which is a plus. Last forever, too. |

Link, I can't recall for certain if that particular model counts up, it's been a few years since I've used that one. The Cooper Atkins TFS4-0-8 further down the page will count up as much as 99 hrs 59 mins after the alarm goes off. It also has adjustable volume, so you could probably turn the volume way down/off, set it for a few seconds, and have time to set up to begin your task as it counts down, then start your job once it hits zero and begins counting up. I would call and ask specific questions before ordering, as I'm not sure if you can stop the alarm without stopping the timer as well. If the volume is able to be turned completely off, that shouldn't be an issue. You may also be able to find it cheaper if you look around for the specific model online, or as I suggested earlier, if you have a contact in the restaurant business that can pick you one up through their suppliers.
