I've a shot at some nicely quartered Cherry, dimensioned perhaps for one piece necks. I've worked with Cherry scads....but I never see this wood used for necks so far. Experience....opinions, direct knowledge to share? Thank you all. michael |

I've used it as a neck wood with excellent results. It's very much like maple to work, and finishes beautifully with no need for pore filling. |

I've used it. When cut right on the quarter you get some nice figure in the neck. Pretty stuff and very well suited for a neck. |

I have some nice 10/4 Black Cherry I expect will make nice necks. I'm getting ready to start processing it today. It will be laminated with Maple. |

I use slab sawn cherry in a 3 piece lamination with mahogany in the middle. I love the stuff. It can be a bit blotchy in the finishing, and sometimes hides some funky streaks that you don't see until you're down to final thickness. But that's part of what makes it cherry, and might explain why more people don't use it. |

I've made many with cherry necks. It's a bit easier to carve than maple. It has hidden quirks that you don't see until you carve down to them, but other than that, it makes a stable and beautiful neck. |

Martin uses cherry for the necks of their "environmentally friendly smart wood" line. I'm building a cherry 000 now and am thinking about using it. |
