Nothing like a little bit of controversy to sell products. I congratulate the advertisers on a job well done. That will make some of that money back.....

I'm glad they got that wood back. It would have been a shame to just burn it.

It ought to be a lesson....not to Gibson but to the rest of us. This is what happens when Chicago isn't contained within the borders of Illinois.

At that price, we should all buy two of them and turn this model into a best seller.

All it needs is a "Don't Tread On Me" inlay
I wonder if the IRS is tracking everyone who buys one

Do you really think it's more than just an angle to sell more?

It got your attention. beehive

Trying to be objective, they have offered a nice price point along with the gimmick of using "The Wood".

Hey, I chamber my electrics all of the time but I don't get any "enhanced resonance".
I guess their lumber IS special.

I like their guts. I've always liked their vintage instruments.

I'll give Gibson props for taking a stand which helped all of us in the end (which I am sure was not their concern) but that is kind of a classless jab at the govt. I am sure they will sell loads of them to the anti gov crowd.

uvh Sam,
I respect your opinion because humor like beauty is in the eye of the beholder. To my eye their response was a light hearted jab at a government that persecuted them at a great cost of time and money.
I would imagine that good people view this with a wide spectrum of views,

I'm just saying that Gibson was/is not fighting for the "little guy". They are a multimillion dollar corporation that are out for profits, not liberty and justice.
In this one case, their ends aligned with other makers large and small.

I actually almost bought one but it ultimately was too ugly and crappily built.

Given Gibson is neither a charity nor a state-owned enterprise, I expect them to do what corporations do, which is to maximize value for their owners...I'm just happy to see they still have a sense of humor about it.

One great way they maximize that profit is by screwing the little guy and not paying their bills. But that's a different story I probably shouldn't go into.

this is the wood from the 2nd raid and that was legal. The first raid , the wood wasn't .

That's true too Filippo. I've just done business with Gibson and it left a bad taste in my mouth. When I first heard about the raids I wasn't surprised at all. They probably just made the wrong person mad.

Sorry about your plumbing issues though. That is the reason why I try to do everything myself. You really can't trust many people these days.

Yeah, I thought it might make a good investment, but for $1100 it's probably more of a novelty item than a great guitar. Thanks for saving me the gas money to go to Guitar Center!

Wonder which guitar will contain the wood from the last Madagascar Tree in the world big enough for a guitar. Most traditional tonewoods are in trouble. Like it or not, Gibson used American grown Rosewood for their fingerboards while their Rosewood was being impounded. Maybe they should consider using it all the time.

In 1956, my dad quit smoking. Lucky Strikes of all things. He said they were "Cancer sticks" or "coffin nails". Everyone know that cigarettes were harmful to your health before anyone ever put a warning on the label. It's kind of that way with wood. Everyone knows that a lot of our favorite tonewoods are disappearing, Maybe it's time we started making some changes before CITIES makes it official.
