Hi,

Can anyone suggest where one can get some of the 192g high clarity hot hide glue in Canada? I know that Lee Valley has it but not to the specs desired. Around the Toronto area would be best.

Thanks,
Charlton

Charlton, I've used HHG from Lee Valley, and I've used other kinds. Put on a blindfold, and I'd challenge you to tell the difference. Sure, the LV glue is not as clear in the pot, but in an airtight joint, the point is moot, IMO.

That being said, the last time I put in a Stew Mac order, I bought some from them.

Regards,

Al

Hi all,

I've actually never used HHG so this will be my first foray into using it. I'm actually using it to do a crack repair and to cleat the crack so it's only a tiny amount. If I like it them I may use it in the future. The small quantity is one reason I'm reluctant to pay for shipping.

TFWW doesn't actually ship to Canada for the hide glue.

Thanks,
Charlton

Charlton, I've got some 192, but I don't know that it's high clarity. I've never had any problems with it. If you can drop down to the Beaches area, I'm happy to give you a few ounces so you can try it.

There's nothing wrong with the Lee Valley stuff, but I have bought one batch that was bad (it stank to high heaven when heated).

The stuff from Stewmac is fine.

I've also bought a batch of 315g strength stuff from these guys: https://www.violins.ca/supplies/hide_glue.html Mt. Elgin appears to be about 190 km from Markham, so perhaps a bit far to drive unless you happen to be heading that way, but I had excellent mail order service from them (years ago).

Thanks for the help, everyone. Grumpy has offered to help me out on this. Sounds like LV stuff is also viable.

Thanks,
Charlton

Ye olde glue is in the mail. Just hope that Canada Post's sled dogs don't sniff the envelop and get hungry.
