This contest is for a set of Martinish bridges that originally came from LMI or Stew-Mac, can't remember.

To win be the first to post correct answers to my questions below in this thread. Since this prize is best suited to newer builders I would ask that only those with 0 - 3 completed guitars under your belts participate. Also US contestants only please since I am paying shipping as well.

Good luck to all! [:Y:]

QUESTION 1) Although acoustic guitars have been called "flat tops" often enough many builders build a slight dome into the tops and backs. Please select the best answer from the choices below as to why some builders believe that slight domes are the way to go?

a) Stronger structure than a true flat top
b) More resistant to dimensional changes caused by humidity swings
c) both a and b

QUESTION 2) Although Martin did not embrace truss rod usage until the 70's todays rods can be more complex but also do more. What feature when considering truss rods permits the rod to work in either direction?

a) Dual threads
b) Double ended
c) Double action

QUESTION 3) Bridges serve a number of functions on an acoustic guitar some of which include being a guide for the strings, the location of the saddle, etc. What is yet another important function of the bridge on an acoustic guitar?

a) A hand rest
b) Termination point for the strings
c) A large and important brace

QUESTION 4) Bridge plates serve an important function - what is this function? Choose the best answer.

a) Anchor point for the strings
b) The source of tone
c) Hold the bridge pins in place

QUESTION 5) What are some reasons why a bridge can split?

a) Too tall a saddle
b) Not enough material between the face of the bridge and the saddle slot
c) Poorly fit pins combined with string gauges that have not been properly fit to the guitar being forced into place by some gorilla/owner...
d) Prolonged excessive dryness
e) All of the above

Good luck everyone!
