After the gree recall I sent in my plug and got $189 check . So I/m out the $100 difference on the dehumidifier which worked really well in my 900 sq ft bsmt.. It gets vented to the drain in the bsmt. Anyone have a good suggestion for a replacement ?. I don/t want to spend more than$300. Suggestions ? what works for you?/ I will need mine abt the middle of march.

I got the same $189 check. I replaced mine with a Frigidaire. It's been running for a few months and so far, so good. Has a drain like the other unit.

thanks steve , how large of an area are you using it in ?? rh here is 25% now and up to 50-60 in mar/apr. Steve I double checked the reviews .Looks to me like a lot of folks have problems with this unit. How would you rate this dehumidifier ?. I have gone through 4 of them in the past 12 years .This will be number 5 what a PITA.

My dehumidifiers have all lasted about 3 yrs or so. I picked the Frigidaire mostly because the reviews seemed to be pretty good - 4 1/2 stars with 600+ reviews, the price was ok, and, hopefully, it isn't made by Gree. I looked at some small commercial units but they were way too expensive.

My shop is relatively small at 12' x 22' and it is standard construction with insulation drywall and brick exterior. Our humidity here can go from 20% to 75% or more and I think the 70 pint unit is a larger than I really need.

As far as my personal rating goes, it is constructed very much like all the others at this price point but seems to be a bit better put together. I've noticed that the humidity in the shop sits at 45% with less variation than my previous unit. So, at the moment I'm happy with it but it's really too early to tell. All in all it's a bit of a crap shoot as it is with most of these home appliances.

I also got my 189. I had also bought the fridgidaire unit. I like it much better than my last one. The last one the fan seemed to run constantly. This one, turns off when it should. I bought it through PC Richards near me... and paid the 35 bucks for the 3 year store warranty. Any issues for 3 years, it is replaced regardless by the store, not the manufacturer. I generally hate warranties... but since these dehumidifiers seem to not last long across the board, I thought it was well worth the $.

Thanks guys , that seems to be a consensus on warranties.Does amazon offer the warranty? or do you have to buy local to get it.??

I don't know if Amazon offers any extended warranty - I didn't get one but didn't look either.
