Post subject:  Help with wood ID

I recently bought the inventory of a local builder who sadly passed away a couple of years ago and I am trying to identify this wood. Some of the larger boards have "HRW" written on them assuming Honduras Rosewood but I am not sure. It has a nice ring to it and similar in density to Cocobolo. There are so many color and grain variations in the images I have found I cant seem to find anything that looks just like this. The color of the unsawn boards is darker, more redish brown.

Thanks!

Looks like Honduran to me, which can vary a lot in color.

Yes, that is likely Honduran rosewood, and a very nice set at that

I thought so but wasn't sure.
I picked up 4 sets that he had cut and probably another 30-40 BF of 3/4 stock.
Anyone ever use it for fretboards?

Yep, I looked at the picture before reading and immediately though Honduran rosewood. Darker reddish brown is also a common look for it. Lucky you! My favorite back/side wood.

And it is indeed great for fingerboards too.

I thought the same thing when I saw the picture - that is Honduran RW. It really is nice wood - great score, man! :)

Yes, it was a good find but under sad circumstances. :( I also bought the rest of his wood inventory and luthier tools which was a couple of pickup truck loads. I ended up with roughly 50 guitar sets of EIR, Cocobolo, Honduras Mahogany, Claro Walnut, Maple, Curly Cherry, Sapele and some odds and ends. Not to mention close to 200 BF of Honduras Mahogany of various dimensions and quite the assortment of other woods.
His wife was glad to see someone buy it who would build guitars with it.
Hopefully the money will help her out as well. [:Y:]

Thanks for everyone's input!
