Can anyone direct me to links on how to build a bird's beak joint? I've seen the great link on John Greven's website. I was wondering if there is anything else. |

There was a discussion at the MIMF which included Clay Schaeffer's picture tutorial of a Bridle joint. http://www.mimf.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=554 Then there was a Tutorial of a covered v-joint by Joshua French, but the images from that have now disappeared into the aether. viewtopic.php?f=10102&t=10511 I have a pdf saved of this though. PM me your email if you would like a copy. |

Joshua's Tutorial was for a through V with a headplate covering the V on top and a cut-out for the V on the back of the headstock. I used his tut. to do my first V. Quite a challenge with hand tools, the first time. Attachment: P1050333 (Large).JPG Attachment: P1050377 (Large).JPG

This is not a tutorial per se, but a series of pictures that shows how I do the joint. I've done lots of these and would be happy to answer any questions. http://jcsw.u.yuku.com/fs/ls/id/95257 |

Hi Jimmy, Thanks for your reply. You should know that I was at Schoenberg's Guitars yesterday chatting with Eric and James. And it was your magnificent guitar that they showed me that inspired me to attempt it!!! What a beauty you made! I would be grateful for any guidance you may wish to impart. Thank you. I was looking at a V joint first, but decided to pursue making a birds beak joint. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk - now Free |

Thanks again for posting. |

Stew Mac will shortly be releasing plans for an C. 1840 Spanish style Martin guitar. This peghead style is shown in detail (both in solid and slotted variants) with all the parts separated and in plan and elevated views. Of course with all of the Stew Mac drawings, detailed measurements are included. This (along with a C. 1834 Stauffer style Martin drawing) will be available to coordinate with the Oct. 1st release of "Inventing the American Guitar, The pre-Civil War Innovations of C.F. Martin and his Contemporaries" from Hal Leonard. |

I had seen an article on this joint in American Lutherie by John Grevin and Charles Freeborn. Actually it may be a couple articles and I may be missing an author here. The articles shows three methods of doing the same joint: bandsaw, table saw, hand tools. It looks like the Grevin web site is just showing the bandsaw method. The articles provide measurements for templates as well. I've used all three methods with good results. http://www.luth.org/back_issue/al101-104/al102.html |

Steven, The Facebook pics are pretty much the same as the pics I have posted. I don't know why you can't access the YUKU pics, but the information on the FB page should get you going. If you need any additional help, just let me know. |
