Thou shall not....

Go through your stash...unless absolutely necessary.

The stress upon seeing all the different tops coming back up in your face with of all them long lost and forgotten great ideas can be daunting to say the least. Over whelming is more like it. Well it was for me.

See it was like dis...

Me needed some really dark tight grain chocolate cedar for the curenderos next build... and so it was down into the lowest levels of

duh Padma-pa Institute for Wayward and Orphan Tone Woods...

deep into the dungeon hidden under the stairs...
where me keep me oldest (over 40 yr old) 1/4 erd and hand split bolts of prized cedar and lutz.
Oh ya, me caressed each and every one of them der dark chocolaters, them coffee creamers, them pinks and strawberry bolts. Drooled over the cinnamon, the blond and the whites cedars not to mention my prized rainbows with the med rays. While fondling me stash of 30 grain lutz... it hit me!

Even if me lived till me one hundred .... is not possible for me to builds them all....Now what?

Wasted dreams...me guess thats just how the story goes.

blessings
duh Padma

Does that leave a glimmer of hope that you might consider giving some of it away? :D

That's easy. Use some of the wood to build yourself a new body that will last 1000 years. It seems to work for trees, at least.

Or write down the designs and put them up for adoption in the classifieds here :) Conditions that you've built an arch topped instrument before, and get started within 2 months of receiving the wood, and document the build.

Or at least include the designs with the stash for whoever inherits it. Maybe a few of them would get built that way.

Having a stash go on you is indeed a sad thing.

But I have another Thou shall not.....

Thou Shall Not have your dog in the room when you have your almost out the door guitar sitting loosely on an ottoman, while you are drawing up a pick guard on the old computer..... or this could happen

Bummer! It was looking so nice. Since dog claws are dull, most of that is compression. It would probably steam out, at least enough so that the top could be sanded and refinished instead of replaced. Nice dog - maybe not right now. ;) I used to have an Airedale.

Strange, that's the exact opposite advice to Grumpy's in a previous post.
Takes all kinds, no?
Many different ways to clean the pig it seems.

Post subject:  Re: Thou shall not....

One other interest for me is old cars, my family has dealt with them for years. We had quite a collection of cars that didn't run, either restorable projects or parts cars. We kept them in a stash in an old chicken house in the country at the old family place. Over the years, I would think of those cars, and get darn near giddy thinking about the day when my finances would finally allow me to start work on one of them. some of them sat in that chicken house, hidden away from view, for close to 25 years.

Then one day I got the news: we had been robbed. Every last car, part, engine, you name it was simply gone. The local law was no help, best we could tell everything got crushed and disposed of before it was even reported. A lifetime of dreams in a lifetime of stored projects, gone overnight. For one car in particular, I had been saving parts for years, and finally had everything I needed to make it exactly what I wanted it to be, except for the money since I had just been laid off (again.) Now, that will never be. All those dreams died, and the future holds fewer possibilities than it once did.

So what is the moral here? I wondered many times which is more important - seeing those cars actually fixed up, or dreaming of the day they would be. A restored car is a restored car, but is what it is. A project car, well that is something different, because you can look at it and see a thousand possible futures spreading out in many directions.

So Padma, enjoy your stash my friend, and may all your dreams be sweet.

Yes, is true....

"and so by my own hand I will ignite my own funeral pyre singing
rise up oh flames of pristine awareness,
most ancient form of purification known to man,
rise up and consume all the dark terror within." From Journey to the Light by ~ the Padma
