Post subject:  Finally finished 1937 Hauser repro
This guitar barks like a mad dog, but in an angelic songlike sort of way.
The client wanted a guitar that sounded "as good as" my daily go-to classical.
I promised him that if I had known what I know when I built the first one, it would sound even better.
And I followed through.
Big, deep bass. Balanced, rich trebles. Throaty top end, all the way to the high b.

Every detail came from the Brune' plan (except the sideport, which I believe to be an upgrade from the original). The rosette was purchased from David Schramm. The rest was made in my shop.
All binding, purfling and the headstock inlay were made from scratch.

The top is Engelmann Spruce, Back and sides are EIR, neck is Spanish Cedar.

Looks great, cool headstock inlay!
Still trying to get my head around:
"barks like a mad dog, but in an angelic songlike sort of way" ....
I am going to keep that in mind as a design goal when I build my next one... :-)

Dave, I have a couple of questions as I build that type of guitar as well.
1) Did you use Brune's soundboard thickness dimensions or go closer to David Schramm"s recommendation of .090 for Englemann.
2) What is your string height at the bridge saddle? It looks like a lot of saddle exposed over the bridge, but that might be an illusion,

The top thickness was pretty thin as I recall. I dimension it quite intuitively with my drum sander and tend to stop when it feels about right.
I stopped a little later than I wanted to on this one. Right after the cross grain stiffness started to get a little flimsier than I like. But it rang like it should have and I went with it.

The saddle height is right at 12mm above the top.

Thanks Dave - I wind up at about 12 mm as well, with a fairly thin top. Hauser must have had a really floppy
piece of spruce to wind up at his thickness. I suspect that is why many report that following the plan doesn't give them good results - too stiff,

I Haven´t seen the plan but I´ve read about that guitar and it seems that it might take a low density spruce with light bracing and little doming to be able to get away with the thick top.
And spruce can vary a lot in density. right now im building one with a light Italian spruce (.345 grams) and ended up at 2,6mm central area and 2,4mm on the periphery. Even at that thicknes the bare plate was already very light, 115grams. and im using a rather big plantilla.
I think the plan should include some information about the caracteristics of the original soundboard. Thats If it was possible to obtain that data from a finished instrument.
