I posted this on another thread, but considering it further, thought it deserved a thread of its own. For all the folks, myself included, who are still finding their way through this stuff.

Thanks for posting this here. I didn't see it in the other post. I think I'll print this out and post it over my bench.

I ain't reading it again, my eyes can't handle it! wow7-eyes

(After reading it, I kept seeing these little angled lines going across the screen until I walked away for a little while. Kind of like a weird optical illusion of some sort. )

That being said, it is very true. I would add that even though I have not yet completed a guitar, I have learned some very important lessons. One is that actually building one is much harder than the books and videos make it seem. I liken it to learning to play. You can study chord changes all you want, but when you put your fingers on the neck for the first time you realize there is a bit more to it.

Same thing with building. I watched countless videos, read a lot, thought it through, then learned that making the right cuts is a matter of practice. You must practice handling those tools in order to get them to do what you want.

Thanks for that, Steve. I think that every kid should have a laminated copy of that in their pocket from the time they are old enough to read.

I have just finished my eighth ukulele. I have concluded that I may never build a perfect one, but I will continue to try. Thanks for the encouragement.

Great advice.

It's not like EVERY or the first Stradivarius was a killer violin, or that Michelangelo didn't screw up a couple of statues before he completed David, or painted a couple of duds before the Sistine Chapel.

I don't often remember this great advice - but it's good none the less.
