Hi everyone! I recently finished my CNC wood router and looking to get started on building my first guitar! My problem is I don't really know where to get started or do I anything about building guitars. Anyone got any advice for me??

1. Does it matter if I rout the top or the bottom of the guitar first?

2. Where can I get specs/dimensions/angles on a guitar like this if anywhere?

3. What kind of wood to use?

Any help I could get I would appreciate!

Willard

I'll answer the first question - YES!

Think about all the operations you'll do when cutting the wood as you produce a finished item. How will your fixtures guarantee that all your lines and cuts will line up once you flip the piece over? It matters!

Where will your clamps be? (if any) You need to have definite tooling points to make sure that both sides align when it comes off the machine.

Use your most important tool first - your brain. Think the whole process through. Good luck.

Hey Will, there's a CNC forum on this site that may be helpful.
I started building two years ago and did not have any clue about how to build a guitar.
I'm working on #6 and #7. My #5 is sweet.
The fellers on this site are the best. All of my "dumb" questions were answered politely.
Good luck!

You have a decent amount to learn (based on your questions) before you get cutting into wood IMO.
Although it doesn't address CNC specifically, check out my free eBook on building with minimal tools to pick up some of the basics. Also got a bunch of videos that talk about other aspects of guitar building (and aren't geared towards tools minimalism): http://www.muxguitars.com Lutherie Resources section.
Best of luck!
Chris

Just a quick "thanks" Chris,
I've gleaned lots of info from your videos and book.
Great information!
Dan
