Hi to you all,

I am building a Kona Style lap slide guitar. I have taken measurements from the Tom Noe book and it will be about 13 1/2" at the lower bout, 4" at the butt and 3" at the spanish heel style neck join with 7th fret at the neck join. There has been no mention of sound hole size. I have done some research and can not find out what size sound hole was used with the early Kona Weissenborn guitars.

Thanks for your attention

Cheers

Alan

Maybe someone on the forum owns an original Kona Weissenborn or a copy of and can help me out with the sound hole dimension.

I would really appreciate some help here please?

Cheers

Alan

In the template set we make the sound hole is as shown. ( resolution is set low on screen cut-out does match sound hole when lasered. )

Blessings,

Kevin

Hello Kevin,

Thank you very much. Just as I thought, the sound hole is about the same size as a standard weissenborn hollow neck. I thought with the extra volume inside the guitar with the deep body although overall top and back size is smaller this would be about right. Looks like you have a plan of a Kona. Can I buy a copy?

Cheers

Kevin, thank you for your time and effort but I notice your template is of a weissenborn hollow neck guitar and not a Kona. Built about the same time as a Weissenborn a Kona Hawaiian Lap slide acoustic instrument is similar to a weissenborn but is different by a smaller body size, deeper sides with a solid neck that starts at the 7th fret.

So I still need the sound hole measurement of a Kona guitar.

I hope someone can help.

Cheers

Alan

Update on the Kona information.
My friend and expert in the field of Weissenborn instruments Tony Francis in New Zealand provided me with the measurement I needed. Thanks very much Tony.
All good to go now.
Cheers

I must apologise to you Kevin as you where correct the Kona has the same size sound hole as a weissenborn.

Thanks
