The rosette pattern is awesome. How the heck do you do something that delicate?
It's only 102 today in Texas - fall must be coming. I hope to get back into the shop by October.

That second guitar top is mighty unhappy looking!

I'm doing fretwork on guitar #7, a Lutz and Palo Escrito Romanillos-style classical, I do like how Palo Escrito looks and works.

Working on my challenge special. I designed a new shape and here it is roughed out. pretty much the same footprint as a normal steel string bridge but with more rounding. Black stripe is CF laminate ala Trevor Gore. Opinions are welcome.

Built the last four cabinets for work, repaired 4 guitars and wet sanded the neck for my dreadnaught (for the 2nd time). I saw a pile of parts that looked like my challenge build some time last week, I'll have to go through the thread to see what I was building.

Built a jig to hold a guitar between wood and foam on my bench. Why I waited 3 years to do this is beyond me.

Did some scraping and sanding on 3 guitars.

Cut heel lengths on 3 guitars.

Added a heel cap to one of the 3 guitars.

Aligned a bridge on a new model (on of the 3) and drilled the bridge alignment holes.

Why does such a short list take so many hours???

I glued on the last back brace on No. 2, and finished profiling the sides. Tomorrow I begin fitting the back. Yeah, I'm slow, but better to take my time on these early ones than to add days by having to remake stuff!

i started putting frets on my first.
this is one of those moments during the build where it starts to look like something. kind of like when the box gets closed or the neck gets fit for the first time.

I finished a bridge slotting jig and made a bridge template. On previous builds I have used pre-made bridges, but want to branch out into different woods, and to tweak the standard bridge design just a bit.
Also got the truss rod installed.

Beth - the timing of your post couldn't be better! I'm almost to the stage of needing to cut my saddle slot and have started thinking about how I'm going to go about making a jig to do that. Your pic has got me off to the races - thanks!

I’m in the middle of my second fret install. This L-00 has almost taken 2 years to build and I’m excited to be so close to the end.

Next step will be saddle slotting and bridge install.
That is a good looking saddle slotting jig Beth. There is always a new jig to build. Can you add some details on the jig? Did you follow a plan? I can see that being a good weekend project.

Hey John, looks really nice!

I did not follow a plan. You sort of need to custom it for whatever plunge router base you have. The base is 1/2" MDF and is about 14 x 18. I jointed the edges of the plywood pieces that serve as a base rail of sorts (where the router base rides), and jointed the oak pieces that form the sides of the channel against which the router base rides. I just installed the 2 left hand pieces so that there is 1/2" plywood for the router to ride on and made sure the top piece is exactly square to my channel. Then just put the router up against that the way it will travel, and installed the other side's pieces the same way, making sure the channel's sides exactly parallel eachother and will allow the router to ride without any slop and straight side to side. The stop blocks on either side are two layers of 1/2 MDF glued together and slotted. The shim angle was figured using a pre-made bridge and aligning it until the slot was the way I wanted, then using that angle. Pop a couple of large cork-lined washers on either end to hold down the wings and you're good to go. Have fun! Beth

Three builds going, a BZ dred, and two OM's with double sides. Every flat surface has something on it.

The BZ is amazing, sent to me by the client who has had it over 20 years. Perfectly quartersawn and straight grained. Wild figure types would not like it.

BZ= Brazilian rosewood, yes? Man, to get something that nice and straight these days is really something. Lucky you (and client)!
