Post subject:  choosing a soundboard

I am going to start a build for myself, and I want it to be a special one. For the B&S, I'm thinking either BRW or Cocobolo, and I wanted a natural dark soundboard without any finish tint. I know redwood and cedar are dark, and sinker redwood is absolutely gorgeous, and I was mainly thinking the sinker. How is the tone for a sinker/rosewood combo? Anybody tried it? And another thought, some do an all koa. What if I combine koa as the top and do a rosewood B&S, is that going to be a dead guitar? Thanks in advance!

Ok, I just finished the binding on this slope dred with a sinker top. I have had this top for quite a while. I had to wait for my skills to catch up with the quality of the wood. It is very brittle . I braced it wider than usual (5/16). i am guessing from the way it thumps right now it will be quite responsive. First time using Zipflex too- easy to work with.

Cocobolo would be a good pairing with redwood. Curly Anigre is another. Mine is Black Limba. Probably not the best pairing but I had it here.

Todd, what is your most reccomended source for good quality cocobolo? Do you do your own resawing ever if you find nice billets?

I´m not Todd, but in his website he does mention Hibdon: http://www.hibdonhardwood.com/guitarsets.htm#COCOBOLO

Also, out of my head: Gilmer ( http://www.gilmerwood.com/items.php?spe ... olo&CID=31 - they also have Guatemalan rosewood ATM), RC tonewoods ( http://rctonewoods.com/RCT_Store/index. ... ts_id=1230 ) or Allied (http://www.alliedlutherie.com/weekly4.htm, http://www.alliedlutherie.com/weekly3.htm or http://www.alliedlutherie.com/cocobolo.htm ).
