This is a follow-up from my previous thread on the cost of postage.

Why can't the cost of postage be like the cost of airfare?? I have some government business in Washington DC at the end of this month. It occurred to me that this might be an opportunity to tack on a cheap flight to Miami to check out how they applied the cureuv finish at Third World Guitars. So I went to the travel agent to ask them to check out flight prices so I would know how much I would have to pay and how much I could charge to my day job with the government of Canada. Here's the response I got:

Business with personal business…

US Airways 3451Y 25SEP OTTAWA PHILLY 1135 1309

US Airways 743Y 25SEP PHILLY MIAMI 1535 1824

American 1136Q 26SEP MIAMI WASHINGTON 1735 2000

United 8490Y 28SEP WASHINGTON OTTAWA 1910 2036

TOTAL FARE - 717.94

Business only

United 8488Y 25SEP OTTAWA WASHINGTON 1705 1837

United 8490Y 28SEP WASHINGTON OTTAWA 1910 2036

TOTAL FARE – 833.97

So it's $116.03 less for me to do the extra trip to Miami than to just do the round trip from Ottawa to Washington! My work should pay me to go to Miami. Strange world we live in.

Pat

You should save the company some money and go to Miami twice.

That's just crazy. You should be thanked by your employer and they should pick up the entire tab for the airfare since it is cheaper for you to go to Miami.

Be a good Canuck and go to Miami Pat. I could use a break on my taxes. It would be the right thing to do. [:Y:]

I used to do stuff like that all the time Pat .. go out to Vancouver from Toronto on business from Wed-Fri .. then stay with relatives and go skiing at Whistler on Saturday .. fly home Sunday, get the much cheaper flight rate because I stayed over a Saturday night .. they gladly payed for the rental car for the extra two days, as it was still cheaper than flying me home on Friday.
