I purchased the LMI Headstock Slotting Jig to use in the making of a parlor guitar following the Antes plans. The plans call for each slot to be 3 5/8" x 1/2". However, according to the jig instructions, two slots can be made depending on the size of template guide you'd use with a 1/4" bit: a 5/16” template guide will make a 13/16” x 4 5/16” slot and a 3/8” template guide will make a 3/4” X 4 1/4” slot. TOO BIG.

Is there a template guide I can use to match the Antes specs or am I now looking at the prospect of returning the jig and doing this by hand (scary!)

I made a guitar close to the Antes parlor plan with that jig. I used the next sized up template guide in my kit, and decided to live with the slightly longer than plan slots. A 5/8 template guide will take another 1/4 off the 3/8 guide width. Your length will still be a little long, if centered less than 1/4 on each side, but hey the plans are really only guides. I made a complete prototype headstock before I tried it on my neck.

I realized the error of my ways after I had posted this and I didn't respond hoping it would quickly flush to the bottom. However, reading deep in the archives I see it's proper etiquette to thank those who reply even though it bumps the topic back to the top. Soooooooo, not wanting to appear ungrateful, thank you Todd and John for taking the time to respond.
