So gents, on your dust collectors....after you've cleaned out the filtration bag, how/when do you decide it's done and you need to switch to a brand-new bag?

I have the 1.5 HP Delta and I clean the filtration bag by dragging it out into the driveway, turning the bag inside-out, putting it back on and running it with no hose....the bag inflates, and I beat on it with a broom handle until it my arms fall off.

After having done this 7-8 times, I sense a bit of a drop in CFMs...but I have no flow meter. Any tips?

My delta dust collector, one of their least expensive models, has two bags one for collection the other for filteration. I wash them with water out of the garden hose, then hang up until dry. They look new afterwards.

I don't know if there is a specific amount of time. I think if you continue to clean them they should last for quite a while. The cotton bags you can wash in a washing machine. The felt bags you can turn inside out and vacuum with a shop vac. Some particles left inside will definitely cut down on air flow, but may help decrease the size of the holes left in the bag and therefore collect more dust. If you wash the felt bag it will clump up the dust.

I think I'm leaning toward retrofitting a true filter that I can eventually make a manifold for and continue to use when I get a cyclone set up.
