Hi all,

I was wondering what options i have for buying a ready made inlay for the 12th fret. I saw a guitar a while ago, can't seem to locate it right now, it was some sort of celtic knot i think, that looked very cool. are there places to buy this stuff, or do i have to get some of you inlay experts to make it?

don't want to get too involved with the shell cutting and such at this point(got enough stuff to deal with, building my first)

Thanks,

Frank

check on ebay. I found a couple of companies that sell completed inlays that are quite detailed. For example one was a cowboy riding a bronc. Size was 1.5 x 2.0"...about a nice size for a headstock. It was like $20 complete. Smaller inlays are less expensive. I think a lot of them are done on a CNC machine these days.

Yep I suspect you will find that this inlay is from Depaule. (luthiersupply.com) Great people Great workmanship and great products. You will find some of my designs being offer there. I get all my inlays via DePaule.

DePaule and CustomInlay.com are the biggest 'small sales' guys I know of.

I used to sell inlay in smaller numbers; the celtic board you saw might have been one of mine. There are pictures of some of the celtic knot inlays in the 'inlay' and 'fretboards' sections of the gallery on my site.
