I just have to say that I can't say enough about this thing: http://woodcraft.com/family.aspx?familyid=20310 I have been sharpening stuff by hand, and it is time consuming, and can get expensive with good stones and all. So I had been thinkin about it and broke down and bought this thing (The worksharp 3000) yesterday. Man, you can put a razor's edge on nearly anything in about 1 minute. Really really cool machine.

Seriously...I agree with your assertion that the time required for touchups is measured in seconds whereas it takes minutes just to set up a blade on one of the many rotors out there. Of the expensive sharpening machines I've seen, most just take up a lot of space and collect dust after a while...once it's discovered how easy it is to hand guide and sharpen either via stones or SS. My rouge-charged leather strop is my primary source of edge rejuvination and it's always within reach for a quick 4 or 5 strokes every 10 minutes or so. |
