This top showed no sign of anything unusual when it was white, but as soon as I applied the first stain it expoded with the pattern you see. I just thought it was pretty cool although I covered some of it with my shading, anyway, thanks for looking.

Hey John,

That looks the wood had some "curl" in it. Like mild bearclaw. It would stain differently as the localised density would be different. It is indeed a cool effect! What kind of spruce is it?

Thanks guys, This is an addy top and it did have just a bit of bearclaw which is the source of this color variation. You could barely see the figure in the wood before the burst was applied. I just thought it looked cool though.

What a cool surprise. It looks well loved already. I wouldn't say I hate bursts, but....
