I saw someone here post about doing mini arm rest bevels using only kerfed lining.

I thought about that Haans, the challenge as I see it is cutting the channel close up to the thin band purfling without touching it. The human eye will notice any incursions. Maybe rout all of it out? Then reinstall clean? I don’t know. Just thinking out loud.

This is the method I have used in the past with great success for retopped.

Using a burr is a very interesting idea.

"the challenge as I see it is cutting the channel close up to the thin band purfling without touching it"

One solution is to -not- cut close to the purfling and remove that last little bit with a chisel. On rosettes I will sometimes score the edges of the channel with a knife blade to get a fuzz free edge, free hand rout the majority of the channel and then remove the last little bit with a chisel. Less chance of "crossing the line" when free handing it.

OK, so that technique avoids weight on the top. I don't think I'd have the courage to pre-rout the binding channel like that. Maybe someone could explain the rationale?
