Thanks to all who weighed in on this topic. There is lots of really valuable first-hand info. Based on all the responses I have decided to not go any smaller than 16", preferably 18" if I can find a good deal. Sounds like the Woodmaster CT is the blade for me, or possibly a Morse M-Factor in a 1" width.

tom craigslist is your friend .One can find 12 in craftsman BS for less than $100. THAT one can resaw up to 6in with a 3 tpi resaw blade from laguna or timberwolf. IMHO there are a lot of great used BS for sale under 3k. SCMI minimax an laguna sell rebuilt BS for less . check their websites.
