I have a work fundraiser tomorrow, and I'm having to work running the checkout area, which has historically been a nightmare. So, ya know, real excited for that.

Hopefully I'll get some more time in the shop (aka the garage) on Sunday. It's been a rough week and I could use some time focusing on something other than work.

That's a little like asking if Hawaii is part of the UN. ;)

Union, Empire, Commonwealth, whatever... Different sporting nations if nothing else (except for the Olympics and the like. We're a complex bunch!). We like to fight between ourselves :) The Scots and Welsh in particular enjoy beating the English, I don't think we get quite the same joy from beating them  (only playing :)).

[FYI: Wales is a nation of the United Kingdom, as is England, Scotland and Northern Ireland. The Commonwealth is the leftover vestiges of the old Empire (always feel like I'm in a Star Wars movie when I say that) and includes mostly former colonies... Canada, Australia, India, etc, etc.]

Hopefully that doesn't read as churlish in any way!? Just thought I'd explain a bit :)

I was really just poking fun. My office mate is from Suffolk and has explained it to me. I couldn't think of a better way to phrase it though.

laughing6-hehe Sorry, I think I may have succeeded only in making it all more confusing! Someone else, please take over!
There's no United Kingdom rugby team or British rugby team, put it that way! Well, except for the Lions. Whole other kettle of fish. Gah, this is too much to explain! I'm going to bed.

Haans, That must be the purfling we saw in the pic you posted the other day? It looks fantastic!!!
Amazing it bends!? (I've not yet attempted wide purfling)

Nick, the outer strips are soaked in hot water and glued and taped with a teflon strip in between. The center strips are lightly wet and tapped in after, just like with abalone.
You have to watch out with wide purfling as it overlaps the kerfing. You should go about 1/2 to 2/3 the thickness of the top in depth. Tops on my instruments are relatively thick, so I have some room to play around...

Here is a photo of a different guitar that pretty much explains it...

After having hernia surgery on Thursday morning, think I will go for a little R&R. Catch up on paperwork, clean up the plans for the binding fixture I made for Santa Cruz Guitar, and the 2nd guitar I made showed up last night. Looks like its time to clean up the frets a little and give it a new set up. I'll probably save that one for tomorrow.

Buffing out the body of my BRW/Adi OM this weekend, and prepping the neck for another couple of coats of finish.
I realize what a risky and untried wood combination this is, but I thought I would give it a try anyway.

George, I'm so jealous of the John Gorka concert! Zeke, those pups are gorgeous....are they Heeleres, Aussies? They look like they're a Mearle, but maybe a red instead of Blue?

Haans...it's another beauty,

I'm going to rebend sides on a commissioned uke that ended up with two bass sides (blushing) and then find an App for help for spatial orientation-deficient people....I can not believe I did that!!

Just carved some braces, side mass mountings next before closing up the box.

Catgut is an abbreviation of the word cattle gut. Gut strings are made from sheep or goat intestines, in the past even from horse, mule or donkey intestines.

Otherwise it could be from the word kitgut or kitstring. Kit meant fiddle, not kitten.

I got the L-00 ready for strings and intonation. I leveled, dressed and polished the frets yesterday. I also got the third and twelfth markers on the FB of the SJ. Tim

Tim, that is one crazy, good looking fretboard (did you cut the slots after the prufling, but before the binding?), and Terence, that guitar looks great without finish. Some good looking guitars on this thread.

Thanks Martin, this was my procedure.

I slotted the board, then I tapered it 1/8 under width so it would be the correct width when I added the binding. I then routed the rabbet for the purfling. Then I glued on the solid binding and later filled the channel with the purfling and the bwb lines using teflon strips in the slots.

Did you put finish of some kind on the FB purling? Looks awesome!
