Wandering the isles of my local hardware store, I saw these chisels for a good price (I thought), anyone ever used these before? If so thoughts?

There are two different sets one with more general style (with carving knife), one looks more for furniture details. Of course there were the singles but the set of 6-7 was such price difference (only 80€). Wondering if I should pick it up next time.

I have a couple of stubai chisels and the steel is excellent. Definitely not discount tools with price and quality right up there with Pfeil.

If these were availible for a good price at the local hardware store I would not hesitate to purchase them.

This should tell you the different sets of bench chisels available. Stubai chisels and carving tools are made in Austria. From what I've read on woodcarving forums, Stubai carving tools are well liked.

It's up to you, but 6 really good chisels for the equivalent of US $110 is a fair price. I would take them out of the package to make sure you like the way they feel in your hands.

I bought two sets of these new at a flea market about 10 years ago. Really inexpensive, I think about $20 a set of 10 in a tool roll. Very soft steel, easy to sharpen, I've modified most of the shapes a bit for custom needs. Tim

20$ is a steal ! I looked online to see if anyone was selling used ones but no one comparable. Only a guy selling a set of about 35 for 500. If I had a money tree.... Anyway thanks for the experiences, I think I will buy a the set sometime when I my wife is not looking. :)

Yes is was a good score. Another thing to recommend, I smoothed out the palm of all the handles. I carved thirteen pretty large finials over the course of about 12 hours and used three of these quite a bit, but realized the handles are sharp and a bit small.
