Remember that uke I built with the wrong symmetry and neck length?

I managed to sell it to someone in the US.

Basically I had friends bring them over to the US and it would get displayed at some music store at Irving, CA and I asked 100 USD for it because it was a "proof of concept" build and full of mistakes, so it didn't deserve the full price.

At least this is a milestone.... it's not much but it will pay for the parts that went into it.

The name catgut is confusing. There are two explanations for the mix up.

Catgut is an abbreviation of the word cattle gut. Gut strings are made from sheep or goat intestines, in the past even from horse, mule or donkey intestines.

Otherwise it could be from the word kitgut or kitstring. Kit meant fiddle, not kitten.

It is a very nice looking instrument. I see why they would want to own it. Well done!!!

It's more like people in Taiwan just have no sense... I've had better luck dealing with children. Like that bridge thing... seems like no matter how hard I try to explain to him how things are done he just doesn't get it. He seems to trust music stores more (who removes bridge with a utility knife...)

Congratulations, although I don't believe I would want an instrument I made out there in the world that the neck was the wrong length... that implies that it won't play in tune, to me......

You brought the bridge issue up from one of your other threads.......I am wondering how you view 'trust' issues when in that thread, you pondered lying to your potential customer...and if you consider lying to customers okay....

The neck is the wrong length but the bridge is still in the right position to play at the proper intonation, it only joins at the 12th fret rather than the 14th.

I wasnt lying to a customer but when he was being unreasonable and insists on a factory original bridge which isnt reasonably obtainable, and inferior to what I make anyways, would he have cared if the bridge intonates correctly and sounds better than the original?

Unless you are in fact Somiygi in disguise (and I doubt he would make disparaging remarks off the bat) please be more respectful.

In your post about buying off brand pre-made bridges, your diagnosis was bridge split between pin holes, and you were going to replace bridge and add an overlay to the bridge plate.
I offered an alternative to replacement, a viable alternative, and I commented that the Eastman guitars I had come across were of high fit, and questioned the need to overlay the bridge plate....

. you brushed off my repair advice , saying it wouldn't work, but you didn't display the good manners to thank me for my repair advise........ even if you thought it completely useless, and had no intention of utilizing it....

to be fair though, you didn't ask for repair advise, you wanted to know where to buy a ready made bridge.... I should have butted out right there....but I didn't...

Later, in the same thread, you pondered whether or not you should 'lie' and tell the customer you located a replacement.

I should have let the whole issue drop, but that comment was way over the top as far as I was concerned, and I said more than a gentleman should have said.

You don't know me, but I would never offer repair advise based on conjecture...but rather on what I know will work, based on years of experience...

I don't believe most people on this forum would lie to get a repair job or a commission, and I'll keep that opinion until I have reason to believe otherwise....

You seem to be a relative newcomer to the craft and one that comes across as already knowing everything, willing to dismiss sound advise..and to consider less than honest tactics to get repairs.

I'll bet I'm not the only poster to draw some of the same conclusions I have, based solely on what you posted Tai.

From the picture, the uke looks good, and perhaps I misunderstood the 12/14 fret thing, but I wouldn't want an instrument out there in the world, with major problems, and call into question my building/repairing skills, but that's just me.

Oh, and I don't have anything against you, I don't know what a troll is and I'm not that fellow Somiygi, either.
