 Post subject: Rectangular sound ports

Is it a bad idea to do a rectangular shaped sound port? Would the corners cause stress risers and cracks or is it not an issue?

I would think a modest 1/4"radius at the corners should make it alright.

And I would probably Bind the sound hole as well , added strength . Same Binding as Guitar edge

For those of you who don't get the reference, look up the DeHavalind 'Comet' airliner. It was the first commercial jet airliner, and had some problems....

Square sound port sounds like the perfect place to have EQ controls in... take the control off and you got a square soundport!

I fixed a cort that had a side crack this way because it was not reinforced.

In a past life, I did a lot of work on ultrasonic welding in plastic. We learned real quick that vibrational energy concentrates at sharp edges, corners, etc.
