Hello all,
I'm in process of building a parlor for my daughter.

The neck was so short I had a tough time finding an acceptable truss rod (until Todd Stock posted that Martin was offering a Terz size truss, about two days too late.)
So I installed a compression rod in the neck. The fingerboard is on, and ready to be fretted.

I've seen some posts where the compression rod is loaded with tension and then the fb is sanded beyond flat so that after fretting and stringing it could be used as double acting if need be.

The question is, considering that the frets will stretch the board out some, how does one know how much to sand in order to make this compression rod work the way I want it to work?

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help.

Dave

The answer, I'm afraid, is not the one you wanted to hear. It's done by experience and judgment.

Thanks Howard....
Trial by fire. My favorite kind.

Good thing the neck is a laminant of lots of Maple. It is hard as a rock.

I'll probably put a little relief into it, sand it flat and call it good.

Thanks, I was sitting and waiting, because I didn't want to have to be the one to say it. ;)
