Hmmm
What are your thoughts on a vertical logo? I’m not use to seeing it, but Tak does it don’t they? I guess it’s way too long of a name to do another way..
This is just stuck on right now to see if I like it

It is different but, the more I look at, the better I like it. Not necessarily better than horizontal but I think it will look fine.

By the way, that is a pretty nice job cutting out some difficult pearl.

Looks good. If it bothers you, you could always stack it the other way like the old Martin logo.

I appreciate the compliment but I had 6 of these logos cut out by someone w a Cnc for me:)
They did a great job.

I did it for years on certain mandolins.

Looks like with that large S, you are getting pretty close to the tuner shaft the other way. You might try it off center the other way too, maybe with the S centered.

I don't dislike the vertical alignment but it does make the S look a bit outsized to me. Too late with this neck, but experimenting with alternative headstock shapes may reveal more layout options.

I like the logo itself overall, but I'm not enthusiastic about how it looks in the vertical orientation. With this headstock shape it seems like you pretty much have to go with that, though. For me, with the guitar positioned vertically (like in a guitar stand), it's not immediately clear that the logo is a word because of the script font and the huge difference in size between the "S" and the "now" letters. It kind of looks like a vertical squiggle centered above a hook shape.

There actually are quite a few guitar brands that have vertically oriented headstock logos, particularly on electric guitars with a Fender type headstock, but typically the scripts/fonts that they use are immediately recognizable in any orientation as text. That's also why Haans' logo on his mandolin works so well in the vertical orientation.

I think the Snow logo could work better vertically with some minor modifications to make it more easily recognizable at first glance as being a word. One might be to reduce the difference in size between the "S" and the "now" (make the "now" letters larger/taller?) and another might be to shift the "now" letters down away from being centered on the "S" so that the word looks more like a capital letter followed by three lower case letters that form a word. Also, the "S" and the "now" are distinctly different font styles which also makes it less recognizable overall as a word.

On the other hand, you may want the logo to have a bit of an abstract quality to it as a part of the design.

Haans - That is one of the coolest non-traditional mandolin designs I've seen. I love it.

Why not, there's quite a few out there.
Nice logo BTW.

The name catgut is confusing. There are two explanations for the mix up.

Catgut is an abbreviation of the word cattle gut. Gut strings are made from sheep or goat intestines, in the past even from horse, mule or donkey intestines.

Otherwise it could be from the word kitgut or kitstring. Kit meant fiddle, not kitten.

Snowmanguy, I've been thinking off and on about your situation all day. As Jay says, there is too much difference in the font sizes, but knowing you have 6 of them and it probably set you back a little, take your time to be creative and also realize this is one of your first mistakes along the path of learning about this stuff.
Unfortunately, The S looks a bit like Bruce Sexauer's logo, BUT a centered S with the "now part" way up at the top of the logo line and running out to the right might do for a while. It flows with the top of the peg head and would be parallel. Wish I could draw on this typewriter with a TV screen, but oh, well...just a thought. Play around with all of what you have there.
You have plenty of time to finalize the inlay. It also gives you plenty of time (6 guitars) to think things over, maybe come up with something else. This is one of the things that you will and should take plenty of time to think about, like box shapes and P/H. I used to hang cutouts of box shapes on the wall and just look at them for a few months. Might do you good to stare at fonts too...
Took me years, and depending on who did the inlay cutting (mine were all cut by hand), sometimes I wasn't too satisfied. Take a look at the two in my photos. The top inlay is quite a bit more delicately cut.
So take your time, even years to think over the very important things if you are going to pursue this...
Jay, thank you! The top one was a 3rd or 4th iteration of the instrument. The lower was the last of a different instrument.

Looks great. Personally i would bring it back to centre it more on the headstock. IMHO it would look better balanced to the eye by placing the 'S' of the logo somewhere between the 1st and 2nd (or 5th and 6th) space of the machine heads.

It may be just the camera angle, but the peghead looks shorter than it did in the 4 1/2 build thread. I agree with Steve that centering the logo might balance things better, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Btw the “s” is actually upside down. The real font has the big loop at the top, but I just didn’t like it like that

I like it.
It's readable to an audience when in playing position.

Most people don't read logos like all of us do. I might back up and look at it from a distance where you can't read it and see what the effect is. I think it looks good the way you have it, both vertically and horizontally.

Just my opinion, but, why not just use the "S" and drop the now. The S looks good just on its own, but it seems the font part of the rest of your name "now", doesn't quite look right to my eye. Just my .02.

Another option I’ve toyed around with is using an “s” like this one... on what I call a fretboard tongue. In other words a small section past the last fret that extends just into the soundhole area a little.
Like I did on this build —-

By “front part” you mean where it should come out of the “S”?

I think he was referring to the font used for the "now" part of the logo.

That's a great looking guitar. I like the S on the rounded end of the fretboard. That's a nice touch. What kind of wood did you use for the neck? It looks like it has a prominent grain to it.

Just a good ol’ hog neck. It has a Royal Lac finish which, I feel” really adds nice depth

When I look at the logo I kind of think of a tree. You always have the option of enhancing that theme. with something like this.
Just an idle thought.

You could also put it up on the 12th fret area and put some floral on the P/H.
