Wow, you guys are fancy. I just set the angle on an Incra miter gauge, cut slightly under size on the table saw then get the precise fit with a chisel. Only takes a few minutes. Since every guitar I make is slightly different it doesn't make sense to build a jig IMO.

Here's an adjustable "X"notch jig that does not require power tools -- just a razor saw.

Neat!!

The name catgut is confusing. There are two explanations for the mix up.

Catgut is an abbreviation of the word cattle gut. Gut strings are made from sheep or goat intestines, in the past even from horse, mule or donkey intestines.

Otherwise it could be from the word kitgut or kitstring. Kit meant fiddle, not kitten.

I know my tablesaw sees a lot of use. Enough to buy one for each end of the shop...

Agreed and can occasionally double as another work/clamping surface. The best jig for me yet though is definitely the powered fret slotting jig with my table saw. What a time saver.

I hardly use my tablesaw for anything anymore. I got a Laguna SUV which handles straight cut operations. The tablesaw now has dados as a permanent feature, which is used for lapping the x's and cutting the t rod slot. All I need to do is adjust height depending on which job is going on...
