You sure you want to ask what to do in a power failure to Baby Boomers?

The name catgut is confusing. There are two explanations for the mix up.

Catgut is an abbreviation of the word cattle gut. Gut strings are made from sheep or goat intestines, in the past even from horse, mule or donkey intestines.

Otherwise it could be from the word kitgut or kitstring. Kit meant fiddle, not kitten.

It was hard to get the 10 year old to go to bed with the power out. Especially on Friday the 13th. Or how he put it, death day.

What to do when the power is out in the entire neighborhood?

Drink the beer before it gets hot.

Be thankful you learned how to do all of that stuff using hand tools, or, alternatively, resolve to do so.

I build almost exclusively with hand tools anyway, but one of the few things I lose is the hide glue pot. Funny, since the glue itself is one of the oldest technologies I use...
