November 4th
Come on over about 11am and we'll have something for lunch and hopefully some good discussion.
Chris Pile and Allan Bacon plan on coming along with a The Steve Mason Luthiers, a loose confederation of four luthiers.
I know of a few other locals that I might be able to talk into coming.
PM me and I'll give you the address.

wanted to bump this.
It's coming up in a little over 3 weeks.
I've been practicing smoking fatties..........on the smoker.
I have a recipe for smoked beans I'll be trying out in the next week.
For those who have offered to bring something that would be great.
Maybe somebody could bring a camera.
Sounds like we can add Ernie from Lee's Summit to the list.
should be a good group, about 10 now but there's always room for more.

Is that some KU speak you've picked up in the new hometown?

I just watched on the Hysterectomy Channel a program on how the B-29's were made in Wichita and how that, plant two at Boeing led to modern day aviation manufacturing there. Very cool

B-17's were built not far from me at a converted GM plant that now serves as the proving ground for autonomous vehicle development industry wide.

Go American manufacturing!!!!

I don't know what the ratio is these days, but in the 60's and 70's.... 6 out of 10 privately owned aircraft were built here in Wichita, Kansas. A whole bunch of military planes were built here - not just Boeing stuff. All the B-47's were built here. In fact, over 100 airplane makers have called Wichita home in the last 100 years. Boeing left us in 2012 (went to North Carolina - a big mistake), but Cessna, Beech, and Learjet continue the tradition of fine aircraft made on the Great Plains. Even Airbus saw the wisdom of putting an engineering and design lab here to take advantage of the airplane building culture and much tribal knowledge.
Allan Bacon (Fumblefinger), Dave Rickard, and I were all proud parts of the aircraft industry here in Wichita. And quite frankly, they couldn't have achieved the heights they did without OUR help. Right, guys?

Wanted to bump this, less that 2 weeks away.
Smoked a couple o fatties I'll smoke a few more before the 4th.
Chris Pile has agreed to do a demo on set ups.
Hope someone brings a camera.
Should be a good time.
See ya then.

Hesh
B29's were also made in the "Great North West" AKA Washington.
I was told that there was a considerable difference in the wing span of Wichita planes and Washington planes.
Had to do with manufacturing tolerances and different tooling. Go figure, it's always Tooling's fault [uncle]
I spent several years working in the old Stearman building or as we called it plant 1.
Spent a few years tucked away making parts for AF1.
It was a good job and gave me a nice retirement.

At Beech, we would blame the welders in the jig shop.

For those who don't know - Dave means Air Force One. And there are actually two of them.

I was just going to post that I am looking forward to this, Dave.
I'll bring a camera, too.
How many OLF'rs will there be?

Mucho thanks to Dave Rickard for hosting us (and for cooking for us). We had a decent turnout, and we had a good time. I finally got to mind meld with Ernie for quite some time, and met some guys new to me (hope they join the OLF). I took some pix, will try to post Sunday.

Thanks to all that came by. It was great to meet some new folks.
Ernie over loaded my mind with info, had to step away so my head didn't explode.
Steve Mason has a wealth of info on Mossman guitars, once again I had to step away because I was getting over loaded.
My mind was mush towards the end of the day, I couldn't even think of what wood one of my guitars was made of, It's Padauk.
I'm looking forward to seeing the pictures.

I'd post pix, but since PhotoBucket is killing itself and I can't upload from my PC - I am dead in the water. Any suggestions?

Posting pictures is a million times easier with Tapatalk, especially if you are taking pictures with a smart phone. I've given up on 3rd party hosting sites.
