Anyone know where I can purchase the really fine pipettes used for CA in bulk?

Thanks in advance

Steve

I buy them on eBay, Steve. 100 for a couple of bucks and free shipping. They aren't really fine tips, but if you hold the tip in your teeth and pull, they narrow pretty well, and just trim the end.
The only problem is that you'll have forgotten that you ordered them by the time they are delivered, usually in 30 days, or so. If you need some quick, I can put some in an envelope and post them to you, or if you just want to see what they are like, before taking the financial plunge! ;)

Alex

We go through about 400 of these per year...CA, dyes, etc. Both of these brands work well.

Box of 400 1.5ml fine tip (25 drops/ml or thereabouts), $21.07 from Amazon Prime:

Box of 1000 1.5ml fine tip (22 drops/ml), $33.99 from Amazon Prime, $39.95 direct from manufacturer.

I actually find it easier to fill the regular ones, and then add the micro tips from Star Bond to those. Works really well...
If you haven't already sprung for some, PM me your address and I'll send you out some to try out. I have tons...

I find the shorter smaller ones give much better control. I cut the tips off just before the first increase in size. The closer my squeezing fingers are to the tip the better.
The long skinny tips have that habit of flexing easily then suddenly flicking tiny drops when they sproing back.

FYI, in intensive care, where my wife works, the small ones are known as "Barbie basters" :)

I have the same that Woodie recommended, but I have a question - how long does the CA last in these? Any way to extend it? What I noticed is that the CA will gel over time. I've been putting a small piece of tape over the end, but it hasn't been long enough yet for me to know if that is working.

I think the time that CA will last in the pipette has to do more with shop relative humidity and any accelerant use than with brand. We've used a couple different brands, with the last two orders essentially identical LDPE 1.5 ml fine tip units that seem to last for several days if drained of CA and not used with accelerators, and a day if CA is left in the pipette. We always use a dose cup for the CA (which is why we order boxes of 4000 dose cups, along with all the color mixing for finish matches), and have a little caddie to keep cups and pipettes corralled on the bench top.

When we are doing a lot of work with GluBoost or other accelerants, it's more likely that the tip fouls with curing CA...we trim back with a razor blade until too short to use.

You've got me thinking, Greg. Those were very easy to use. The problem with stretching out the tip is that it makes it a bit floppy, and hard to be really accurate. 1000 is just a bunch too many for me. Maybe I'll look for the same, but in a smaller amount.

I got a box of 400 for under $30.00 to the door. Very handy.

We have a new box of 1000 and the two partial 400 count boxes on the benches...it's surprising just how useful these pipettes are for glue, spot lubrication of tuners, finish work (drop fills and dye measurements for tinting lacquer, shellac, and water-based materials), and even applying anti-mange drugs to meat left for an afflicted fox. Our vixen healed up nicely after a three day snack binge of thawed chicken breasts...we have seen her with her kits within the past few months, looking healthy and gamboling down the farm road behind the boss's property. I have to admit to taking a few pipettes home for use around the house - very handy (yes...I reimbursed the shop account...with scrumptious lemon bars).

Two weeks after ordering the pipettes, Today, Amazon notified me they can't source them and cancelled the order. I will have to try later I guess. See you next week at Guitar Day.
