A friend gave me a Makore board a few years ago and I just got around to cutting it up. After totally dulling two bandsaw blades, I got one nice slice 9"X48" and ran it through the drum sander. It has a real clear, bell like tap tone. I was thinking of building a dred with it. Has anyone built a dreadnought with Makore? If so, would you recommend it for a dred? Thanx, Vic.

Makore is a very good tone wood. Beautiful color under finish. A word of caution: It can be very allergenic so take your usual safety precautions.

Built my first harp guitar from it .. peppery smell when sanding, made me sneeze !!! Guitar turned out very nice .. like a mahogany , but denser ... still have another set in the stash ...

Sorry for the tangent, but the wood on the photo (very nice btw) looks like what a German seller calls palo naranja, which is a wood I've never heard of elsewhere. Anyone knows if it could be the same?

I don't think it is the same. Makore is from Africa, Palo Naranja is from the tropical America's. It looks similar.
