My new favorite: the grain is oriented lengthwise because the sound travels through the grain lines.

That having a thin nitro finish on a Strat will enable the wood to "breathe".
Not sure what that means, but I like to make sure my wood is dead before I saw it up.

Sound runs along the braces, too.

There's 'magical' wood that ALWAYS makes a great guitar, no matter who builds it.

Factories make better guitars than individuals because they can be more precise.

...and so on...

A shiny new guitar is better than an old one...

I don't know about myths.... but I remember lots of goofy stuff like these....

"I need to have my aperture adjusted" (he meant the truss rod)

"Can you install a screaming bar?" (wanted a Floyd Rose)

"Isn't it cheaper to have you make me a guitar than buying one from the store?"

"What's the best wood for a guitar?"

"What's the best pickup for a guitar?"

"What's the best guitar out there?" (on the sales floor)

"I want it to sound just like Eddie's" (as in Van Halen)

My personal favorite:

I know a lot of people have found this not to be a myth, but I am not one of them.

"All else being equal then ......(insert belief)"

I don't believe all else is ever equal in guitars.

Ken, that's a good one. I was just reading that this morning.

Another one: you get better tone if the strings push down harder on the saddle.

Lighter (or heavier), or stiffer (or looser) anything is better.

The name catgut is confusing. There are two explanations for the mix up.

Catgut is an abbreviation of the word cattle gut. Gut strings are made from sheep or goat intestines, in the past even from horse, mule or donkey intestines.

Otherwise it could be from the word kitgut or kitstring. Kit meant fiddle, not kitten.
