MOP inlays on a fretboard. I'm slowly getting better at them.

I still have to clean it up after the superglue dries.

Lots of really beautiful work being done there. That comment about the "outcaster" and barncaster really cracked me up!

We lost our male Bullmastiff a few weeks ago very unexpectedly, but found out his father had just sired a litter ….we adopted his baby sister!
Because of her, I'm much slower in the shop, but did get the box closed on a Lutz/Maple cutaway (my first cutaway).
Calling it the Dreamsicle because it will have cocobolo bridge, FB, bindings and head plate.

Everything looks great.

Love the heel treatment Beth.

Zeke: The binding on the box is white pearl celluloid. I didn't want too much, so I cut it down to about 3-4mm. I have a pearl rose that I thought to use(Emily's middle name is Rose), but didn't find a spot to put it that I liked the look of. I thought it would be a shame to mess up that tiger myrtle.....

I love these threads! Always lots of cool ideas to pirate.

I'm just finishing up this one for one of my oldest friends on the planet. It will be a birthday present from his sweetie and myself. This guy showed me my very first chord waaaay back when. His girlfriend and him came to visit one weekend and let him bend the sides and had him help me work out some design details. He chose the top wood also. He has no idea this guitar is for him. I can't wait to see the look on his face when he finds out it's for him! It has my first oil finish neck and I likey a lot.

This other one might be cool. I had to give a Maple bevel a try. It worked out pretty well. The body is Wenge and it will have a Curly Maple neck, bindings and bevel. I'm looking forward to hearing this one. Wenge has the most gong like tap tone I have heard.

That and enjoying the Olympics. Arnt. I'm glad to see your curlers still got it going on.

Danny…that's one beautiful guitar and lucky friend!! You do a really pretty job on the bevel. I know others have done tutorials on it, but would you consider posting a series of pictures on your process, maybe in a "Fixtures and Tutorials" thread?

I disagree. Walnut has a distinct odor.

DannyV, Stunning work there. I LOVE that Maple bevel. I have done a few oiled necks for guys but finally did one on my Gibson LG-0 and it is the most sensual feeling ever.... The more you play it the more you are going to love it.

Beth, I am so sorry to hear about loosing your friend.. I am sure the little one will help heal your heart.

Bob

Martin, pretty cool to share some shop time with your son.
I tried something similar but it did not work out so well.....
Danny - that is one eye-popping creation, well done!
I am making progress on my Ziricote project - fitting the neck today:

ARRG!!!!

My plans just got changed. I went to cut some material for perfling and my bandsaw just took a dump.

Only 45+ years old and the lower bearing just blew out. It was screaming at me earlier in the week so I dropped some oil in it and it stopped screaming...

I guess I just flushed all the metal shavings out that were holding it together.

Plan B...

Sorry to hear that Robert. That's why I don't touch the plumbing; I think the rust is holding everything together.

Hardly typical of what I usually do, but this commission has been fun to build.

Koa slack key optimised guitar, matching top and back ("see thru" effect), rope binding, sound port, wedge body, custom dyed inlays, magnetic arm rest, dense lattice (Smallman style) cf bracing, etc. etc. as well as all the usual "different" stuff. Fully optioned, as they say...

I just finished off a spalted maple on Elm Telecaster style Thinline with rope style purfling and Santos Rosewood binding.

Also finished off the globes for a pair of speakers that I made. These are going on a Clairtone Project G that I am making. the tulip stands are temporary until I get the G stand made.

Finally, I completed the borders for the inlaid fingerboard and tailpiece for the viola da gamba that I am making.

I'm waiting on wood to swell. It has now been almost two weeks since I put No. 1 in the plastic bag with a wet paper towel inside to see if I can get rid of my sunken top that left a fret board gap. So far, it appears to be working.

My new hygrometers arrived from Stew Mac yesterday. I bought the one with the dial for the shop, and the digital one for the case I will hydrate the parts with. Nice to know, I set them in the house side by side and they read the same to within 1%. BTW, the humidity in my house seems to be 31-32%.

Anyway, No. 1 is still on hold while I wait this out... Eat Drink

Thanks Beth. Very kind of you. The next time I do a bevel I'll try to take a few more photos along the way. it would be fun to start a thread on it sometime. There's some people here that are way more qualified than me. James/Ringo comes to mind. It would be good to know some others techniques. If you ever want to do one you should. It's not all that difficult. I would suggest you do the first one in black. It's a little more forgiving.

How did you cut that very cool butt treatment on your build? Looks great!

Thanks, Danny. I didn't have a coco piece big enough for a wedge, so I used the arc from a coco rosette center circle (I was originally going to have the rosette be coco as well but thought it might be too much of a good thing so the rosette's abalone). Cut identical pieces eyeballed to a size I liked and inlaid them. It only worked because I had butted the two sides pretty well at the tail, which I don't always pay attention to if I'm putting a wedge in.

They are all good, guys and gal. Robbie, I always like zircote, and Danny the top on that guitar and bevel are great. Tevor's guitar has all the options on the lot, and Doug you've done a lot, and I especially like that inlay, very Celtic. Reminds how much there is to learn, how much room for improvement there is in my work, and how much I enjoy these posts.

Danny, great looking guitar, Doug Gold hardware on a tele idunno

I glued the bridge back on a 1948 Martin Size 5, really surprised at the amount of finish left under the bridge by the factory, no wonder the bridge popped off. Used 315 gram HHG
Scored a Jet spindle sander
Deep bodied Herringbone, Black Locust OO-28

Nice looking work, Beth, and nice pup, as well. We had a couple Bullies,, but unfortunately they don't last too long. Funny how they think they are lap dogs!
And Danny - WOW! Your friend is going to be floored!

Turns out you can actually make a few bucks this way.

Which all (and then some) got spent on a steelhead kit, which is next weekend's fun!

David Wren, that is utterly astounding there is an almost 3D effect to that wood, and the finish! bugger me.

No building this weekend, displayed a couple guitars and my Bouzouki at the Coopers Glen Acoustic music festival at Kalamazoo Mi. Mark Swanson posted this video on youtube today.
