maybe sorted it. This is the source of wood and a few pics of its construction. It is a Tacoma style instrument and turned out ok although self praise is faint praise.
Also a pic of the other guitar and the uke.
They are not grain filled merely varnished, one guitar using water based floor varnish, the uke and the other guitar in wiping varnish which I like a lot.

Thanks for sharing those Neil. Did you just decide to live without a front door? haha

Great re-purposing of the timber which does look like "meranti". Which is probably one of the "Shorea" species. The builds look really good. If you do go for filling at some stage the Timber Mate products are really good.

I did use egg white on the uke which is very good

That looks great MT!! I love the idea of using recycled wood. I built a parlor guitar for the OLF challenge last year out of oak from an old barn in my back yard with a pine top as well. The guitar sounds great, honestly one of my best to date, and I play it almost every day. It's a joy to reuse old materials like that. That oak is absolutely beautiful and the top is as well. The over all composition of that instrument is lovely. Let it brake in I bet even after a week it will start to open up.
