Nothing gaah But we did finally finish the latest remodel project this weekend so maybe I can get back to the shop now. The neck on my challenge special (Big Mouth) needs to be reshaped and the finish repaired where I got it too hot when removing the bridge.

All my guitar work is on hold for a while. I'm getting ready to be a vendor/exhibitor at the Minnesota Bluegrass & Old Time Music Association (MBOTMA) winter weekend in Minneapolis the first weekend in March. I'm peddling banjo rims for fun and profit.

Image

I've got a couple more that aren't in this photo for a total of 18 rims, so far. These are all 11 inch block rims. I want to make two or three 12 inchers.

This is my first time as a vendor. If I sell a bunch of stuff, there is a second MBOTMA weekend in Duluth two weeks later. I may just rent a dogsled and go up there.

I finished a neck out of Sycamore with Walnut stringers for an Explorer build. Determined it was too limber to use, threw it away.
Started carving a new one out of Walnut, found the Walnut has a crack running through it, threw it away.
Got frustrated so I rough cut some lumber for a Tele build: Chinaberry and Pecan.
Then I got frustrated with my Ryobi router table not being flat and having a very loose miter slot: threw it away.
I went outside and pruned back dead tree branches. At least I got some good wood cutting done.

Thanks, Micah. Looks great. What sort of purfling bands will you use to complete the package?

Also doing some wood inventory and came across this forgotten cocobolo cant from way back when... I remember thinking 'meh, it's pretty boring, but it's vertical grained for 10" or so so what the heck' when I bought it. Cleans up pretty nice...

Finally finished binding both Odalisques, and am now working on necks. Also doing a ton of repairs, including a bridge reglue on a McPherson, bridge reglue/bridge plate replacement and smoke damage on a '37 Gibson L-0, and some crack repairs on a couple of classicals.

It's more just a holder for a carruth-type scraper. It scrapes really nicely compared to a normal card scraper and is much more comfortable to use, but the wedge doesn't really hold it that well , so you have to put some downward pressure on the blade in use.

Fred, very nice!

These ziricote / 'sinker' redwood guitars seem to be all the rage these days. Here is one I have in the works...

Arnt it will probably be my only Red Ceder guitar as I have discovered I am allergic to it, can't harfly wait to get it final sanded and the finish started. I really like the look of Ziricote so I purchased another set after starting the 2 guitars.

Your guitar is going to be awesome, I love the rosette.

Oh, so yours is red cedar! I didn't read you description carefully enough, I somehow though it was redwood, sorry about that...

About allergies, yes I have them too, and they are getting worse all the time. These days, I have to be super careful about producing any wood dust, let alone breathe it. Needless to say, it has affected the way I can work, and it is no fun.

I'm bracing up a top for my first commission build and I'm making a rosette.

What is the rosette made from? I like it!

Well, black for sure as the outermost bands. Then add to that, perhaps, one of the colors in that rosette. (Red might work fine, btw.) Whatever you choose, repeat the scheme around the entire guitar for a cohesive appearance.

AND-- note to everyone else-- great looking work, thanks for posting. These are always inspiring threads.

Good idea and thanks for the advice! I'm still trying to figure out what I'm going to do for binding. the top is WRC and the back and sides will be wenge. I was thinking of doing a coco binding, but not sure yet.
