I have experienced a New England Noreaster before. A couple of them. And the winter variety is something else. I was there during the "Perfect Storm". Y'all stay safe and indoors! And keep us informed if you can.

I was a kid in Connecticut that 1978 storm. That one was a duesy and they didn't have the prediction technology like they do today. My Father drove home in his old Chevy from New York in over a foot of snow. He had just made it onto the highway before they closed it and had the whole road to himself. The car stalled and he got out to look under the hood and it was packed with snow. So he chiseled it out and started on down the road. Some how made it all the way home before two more feet of snow fell.

I miss snow storms like that

Over a foot here outside Toronto, its still coming down pretty hard .. supposed to snow all day. Snowblower wont start, broke my big snow float, so I have to fix the handle before I can get out again later tonoght and shovel some more .... But it is fun getting around in the old 4x4 explorer !!!! Tail slide, four wheel drift ...

Sounds like you've got the feel of that Explorer, Tony.
I think the roads would be a safer place if every driver had experience on snow and ice with controlling a drift, tail slide etc.
I learned out in the cow pasture in a 1947 Dodge pickup back in the fifties but I'm no expert by any stretch.

Yeah ... I am fairly confident driving in bad weather ... I learned all about drifting and such driving snowmobilies on the glare ice of the lake in front of our old family cottage when I was a teenager .... now those were the days ....

We're deep into it, and still have better than half of the storm yet to hit. Over 12" so far. The thought is we will end up with somewhere between 2 and 3 feet by the time it finishes. It will be easy to measure, as we had none before the storm. Keep losing power too, but so far it's still hanging in there.

All the weather models are saying my area is supposed to get hit the hardest. Figures!

Hope y'all are OK. I spent 5 years living in Beantown. Loved it. Lived on the coast in Swampscott. I really loved that place. When the storms came, they were amazing. The Perfect Storm threw boats all over town. At the time, I had no idea about the significance of that storm. But when those storms hit in the wintertime, there was no mistaking the danger. Stay warm, stay safe. I remember those monsters!

Hope you all in the storm path stay safe. We've had a bit of snow this season here in the Rockies. Here's a pic of my son digging his car out in front of the house a few weeks ago. Much of the snow from that storm is still on the ground here. It has really overstayed its welcome.

Just started up here in Maine. Down in Bar Harbor area and we're supposed to get a couple feet. We usually look forward to it though unlike you city folk. We actually have a place to put the snow. Feel bad for you in Boston.

Here's a postcard from the Great Southern Land, just to let everyone up north at least think you could be warm once again!

With half of the region out of power, we're fortunate to be in the half that still does.
We have roughly two feet of snow on the ground, and lots of drifting higher and lower from the wind. We lost our furnace due to the intake/exhaust vent getting covered over on the back of the house. Fortunately, the woodstove has kept up and we're keeping warm. Snow is still falling though. Yikes!
Not expecting plows until maybe tomorrow, so we're stuck here for the day.
Plenty of junk food, freshly made chocolate chip cookies, and power. It's all good.

Anyone want to come shovel me out?

25 inches here in Southwick on the western side - still have power - I spent the morning with the snow blower getting dug out and creating the "pooper highway" in the backyard for the dog...

Oh the simple pleasures of the Northeast!

At least 2 feet here in Boston, likely more. Until the cars start up again it will remain just beautiful, everything looks pristine. We'll be traveling in canyons for a while I would figure though, there is only so much they can dump in the harbor. May not get back on the bike for a bit either which means triple the time it takes to get anywhere!

Saw some cross country skiers going down the road, that must have been fun!

Apparently there is Harvard vs. MIT snowball fight tomorrow, might stop in for that.

Ha! Cross skiing 128 or 93! Wonder how the skiing etiquette rolls?

Now, Trevor is being a bit of a show-off. What he hasn't mentioned is that we just had Cyclone(Hurricane) Oswald track the length of the East Coast, with 300-400mm of rain, 120kph winds and the OTHER HALF of the country is on bloody fire!

I grew up in the NY/NJ area, and went thru a few doozies. When was NJ shut down? 95, 96? 3ft of snow and no way to get rid of it..........

Been back in OZ for 9 years, and I can assure you that just about the entire place is either under water or on fire

The other 10 days of the year are gorgeous.....
